Custom/Specialty Baskets

December 7, 2008- Donna
Although we carry an array of items which satisfies the regular buyer's needs, at times, customers are just looking for something a little special.  This brings to mind a few years ago when a customer contacted us for a 'Plane Basket'.   A customer wanted to purchase a gift for a friend  who just purchased there own private plane. After speaking with the customer,   we decided to go with a model airplane of the actual plane, and some accessories for the newly purchased airplane.  All wrapped up in a basket, of course.   We love making gift baskets but we also like when customers give us a chance to allow the creative juices to flow.  Needless to say, the plane basket was a hit.

If you are looking for something special,  give us a call.  We are happy to work with you to develop that special gift.  For information regarding our custom gift creations, click here.

Thanksgiving,  A Time for Thanks

November 14, 2008- Donna

Thanksgiving seems to be the least recognized holidays, yet one of the best times to send a gift. What better time to say 'Thanks'  or 'Thinking of You' then at Thanksgiving?

I've came up with a couple of reasons to send Thanksgiving Baskets:

  • Your gift will probably be the only one, which will make it stand out. And if it is sent as a thank you for referrals will possibly generate more business for you.

  • Great alternative to sending during the holiday season especially when you are not sure what holiday is celebrated, i.e. Christmas, Kwanzaa, or Hanukkah.

  • Your gift will be truly appreciated when sent to someone who will be alone, or can't make it  home for Thanksgiving. i.e  a student or someone serving in the armed forces.

Choose from snack filled baskets or mini meal baskets.  Fresh baked loaves,  meats, crackers, and fruit spreads are some of the delicious things we include in our Thanksgiving Baskets.

How to Make Sure Your Holiday gifts Arrive on Time

October 30, 2008 - Donna

The holiday season is one of the busiest  times of the year and it is almost upon us.  The internet has made it convenient for us to  shop right from our seat.  Years ago, when Bratz dolls first came out.  I ordered one online for my 10 year old while we  were away for the Thanksgiving holiday.  My holiday package awaited my arrival when I returned home from my trip.  How easy & convenient was that.  I was sold-the internet was the way to go for all my holiday shopping.

Here are a few tricks for getting your holiday gifts on time.

  • Order early.  You can shop early but request your gift is sent in time for the holiday.

  • Check the cut off date.  Most online retailers will have a cut off or order by date for regular ground shipping.  That date is very important.  It is normally supplied by the major shipping companies such as UPS, Fed Ex, & DHL.  If the date has passed, you need to pay for expedited shipping services.  Otherwise, your gift will probably be late.

  • Check the company's turnaround time.  How long will it take for your order to ship from their facilities. Even if you pay for expedited shipping services, if the company turn around time is 5 business days, your gift may still be late.

  • Last but not least, make sure you provide a  complete and correct address.  This can cause a major delay, even if you did all the things fore mentioned.

Hospital Deliveries

Chicken Soup for the Soul
October 28, 2008 - Donna

Get well baskets are often time our biggest sellers. Whether a new baby, a sick coworker,  or a sick  family member, there is always a need for a get well gift basket.  During a recent stay of my own in the hospital a few months ago- it made me think of the effectiveness of our get well baskets. Does the patient really appreciate the contents of our gifts.  After my  five day stay the answer to that question was-ABSOLUTELY!  We all know that hospital food is not the greatest. As a matter of fact, it is one of the most expensive meals that you will ever eat.  If you dont believe me, check your insurance bill. On top of that, it doesn't taste all that great.

After three days in the hospital, I was bored to tears. I was tired of watching TV,  and I just could not take another bland meal. I would have welcomed the site of a gift basket with some nice gourmet food.  No one sends gift baskets to someone who designs gift baskets. It's like giving your hairstylist a gift certificate for a hair cut.  So I imagined receiving one of our gifts. Some of our gifts include fresh baked cookies, crosswords or  magazines to help past the time,  and even chocolates; they can be customized for hospital stays or for some one recovering at home. The sender can order a customized gift.

There's a knack to successful hospital deliveries. First, make sure the patient can receive gifts.  Some hospitals have special policies regarding patients, especially ICU patients, receiving gifts.  Check to make sure they have a room.  That is very important as a delivery can not be made if there isn't a room number.  Most gift basket companies do not ship baskets to hospitals.  So please don't  insist that your basket is shipped.  These days a patient can be released within a day. Picture this scenario: your basket is shipped, it arrives at the hospital's mail room with hundreds of other packages, after 5 days they deliver to the patient, who has checked out 3 days ago and is now home recovering.  If you are lucky,  the  hospital may forward your gift to the patient's home, an additional charge to you, it arrives 5 days later, the patient is no longer a patient but has returned to work. As you see, something that started out  with good intentions has now become a costly nightmare.  To avoid this scenario, choose a local gift basket company, and make sure the company hand delivers your gift.

Etiquette for Sending Sympathy, Condolences, or Bereavement Gift Baskets
October 20, 2008 - Donna

Gift baskets are great for just about any occasion but sending gifts at a time when someone has experienced a loss requires a different type of etiquette.

In our experience, sympathy gift baskets are probably the only gifts that you may not get an immediate response to.  Although your gifts are appreciated and well received, and whether the death was expected or unexpected, remember this is a difficult time.  It may take weeks or maybe even months before the recipients acknowledge your gift.

It is most appropriate to send gifts to the home and if possible a day or two before the funeral.   If you can, avoid sending gift baskets to the funeral home or even on the day of the funeral.

Do choose gift baskets with prepackaged, nonperishable, gourmet foods items.  You have no control over when the gift will be opened or actually consumed. Avoid sending items that must be consumed immediately including most fruits.  A good selection of cookies, crackers, cheese, spreads, quick dip mixes, nuts, cakes, soups, tea, coffee, chocolates, meats, and gift items like comforting books are a great selections of items that the family can enjoy before or after the funeral.

Receiving a belated gift can be a blessing. Often the recipients will receive a great deal of support immediately following a death but then life goes back to normal for everyone except for the family experiencing the loss. Don't hesitate to send a Comfort Basket or Thinking of You Gift Basket weeks or even months later.  We recommend a basket of comfort foods or even some much needed pamper items, candles, a cuddly plush, and some comforting words to let them know that they are still in your thoughts.
